1. Introduction and Context:

The merging of artificial intelligence (AI) and gender has become a crucial area of investigation due to the increasing integration of AI technologies into society. It is vital to examine how these technologies impact gender dynamics and contribute to societal inequalities as they become more widespread in various sectors like healthcare, finance, education, and criminal justice.

The UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence recognizes gender as a fundamental ethical consideration in the development and deployment of AI technologies. Addressing gender biases, disparities, and discrimination is essential to ensure that AI systems promote gender equality and respect for human dignity.

The intersectionality of gender with other social identities such as race, ethnicity, sexuality, and disability is also acknowledged in the UNESCO Recommendation, emphasizing the importance of considering multiple dimensions of diversity to address discrimination and inequality in AI.

A multidisciplinary approach involving computer science, social science, ethics, and law is necessary to understand the interaction between AI and gender. Through a gender lens, researchers can identify biases, disparities, unintended consequences, and innovative opportunities in AI systems' design and deployment.

  • Expertise: Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in AI and gender studies with technical and social sciences understanding.
  • Education: Master's degree in relevant fields preferred.
  • Experience: Extensive research and analysis experience in AI and gender.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills required.
  • Languages: Working proficiency in English.
