The Vice President of Compliance is a strategic leadership position responsible for overseeing and managing the compliance function within an organization. The VP of Compliance ensures that the company operates in adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, while promoting ethical conduct and maintaining a strong culture of compliance. The incumbent will develop and implement compliance programs, monitor regulatory changes, provide guidance to senior management, and foster a proactive compliance culture throughout the organization.
**What you’ll be doing**
Compliance Strategy and Planning:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive compliance strategy aligned with the company's objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Establish policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential compliance gaps and develop mitigation strategies.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Monitor changes in the regulatory landscape and assess their impact on the organization's operations.
Compliance Program Development and Implementation:
- Design, implement, and maintain an effective compliance program throughout the organization.
- Develop compliance training materials and deliver training sessions to employees at all levels.
- Establish mechanisms for reporting and addressing compliance violations, including anonymous reporting channels.
Monitoring and Auditing:
- Conduct regular compliance audits to assess the effectiveness of the compliance program.
- Establish monitoring systems to detect and prevent potential compliance issues.
- Investigate reported violations, implement corrective actions, and monitor their effectiveness.
Compliance Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare and present compliance reports to executive management and the board of directors.
- Communicate compliance requirements, policies, and updates to employees and stakeholders.
Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance considerations are integrated into business processes and initiatives.
- Represent the organization in compliance-related matters with external parties.
**What you'll need**
- Bachelor's degree in law, business administration, or a related field. A Juris Doctor (JD) or advanced degree is highly desirable.
- Proven experience (typically 10+ years) in a senior compliance role, preferably at a similar level within a complex organization.
- Strong knowledge of laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to the organization's operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing compliance programs, policies, and controls.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of compliance, ethics, and integrity within an organization.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) are highly desirable.
