**Purpose**

Leads and oversees risk management for Scotiabank Uruguay (full-service Bank) and Pronto (Consumer & Micro-Finance company). Pro-actively manages risks and ensures business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

**Accountabilities**
- Leads and drives a customer-focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Manages all local risks (Retail and Commercial Credit, Market, Liquidity, Collections & SAM, Operational and AML & Compliance) to ensure the Bank's integrity and ability to meet regulatory and fiduciary requirements. This is accomplished by developing and regularly updating the Bank's Credit Risk Strategy, all risk policies, and all local lending guidelines for segments and industries. Supervises Pronto's strategy and alignment to BNS rules.
- Communicates the Bank's risk appetite; local risk exposures, strategies, policy and framework to key stakeholders including employees, the Board of Directors, regulators, rating agencies and external auditors.
- Identifies, measures, monitors, and mitigates the Bank's material risks by:

- providing independent and objective oversight and risk assessments by monitoring the Bank's risk against strategic objectives;
- following up on actions taken by management in response to identified issues and related
- recommendations involving risk;
- regularly monitoring and reporting on aggregate exposure to approved limits, trends in aggregate exposures by portfolio, exceptions to approved policies, risk appetite metrics etc. and,
- recommending continued maintenance or modifications to policies / lending exposures to senior management, and the Board of Directors.

**Experience**
- Bachelor degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance or Economics. An MBA or Master in Finance would be highly desirable.
- At least 20 years of relevant work experience, including at least 15 years of relevant Banking experience.
- Expert knowledge of local (i.e. Uruguayan) regulation, as well as international regulatory trends (e.g. Basel Committee)
- Broad knowledge of the Banking industry and its various business lines, segments and products. Expert knowledge of the Bank’s risks’ appetite, policies, procedures, and practices
- Having worked internationally, or else in multinational companies, with continuous contacts with units abroad is highly desirable.
- Capacity to work with minimum guidance and under pressure in a highly complex and ambiguous environment.
- Ability to lead large groups across multiple areas, and towards objectives that are hard to achieve.
- Outstanding credit fundamentals in Corporate, Commercial, SME and Retail lending.
- Fluency in Spanish and English is necessary.
